Remote patient monitoring health app for hemophilia

Ionic Framework 3.x | AngularJS 4.x | Java | Objective C

Health IoT wearable and companion mHealth app provide real-time monitoring of infusions and bleeds enabling Hemophilia patients and their doctors to intervene proactively to limit complications that lead to disruptive and costly hospital treatment.

Challenge

Hemophilia requires constant monitoring by physicians, which can be challenging to achieve consistently. To address this, a leading multinational biopharmaceutical company sought to develop an innovative mobile application tailored to hemophilia patients.

The app was designed to:

  • Track Health Metrics: Enable patients to log infusions of any factor replacement product easily.
  • Record Incidents: Allow patients to document bleeds and monitor their activity levels.
  • Support Preventative Care: Provide healthcare providers with real-time access to patient data, enabling timely interventions and preventative care.

By leveraging the app, physicians could act proactively, reducing the likelihood of severe complications, improving patient outcomes, and lowering overall healthcare costs. This approach underscores the power of technology in transforming chronic disease management.

Challenge

Approach

We partnered with the biopharma to develop an integrated digital solution leveraging health tracking technology and a wearable. Our shared vision was to transform communication between patients and physicians through an innovative mobile health (mHealth) app.

The app featured:

  • Wearable Integration: Seamlessly connect with wearables to log daily activities.
  • Comprehensive Monitoring: Track patients throughout their treatment journey and recovery.
  • Enhanced Communication: Enable patients or caregivers to generate and send detailed reports to physicians.
  • Universal Accessibility: Designed for easy download on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android devices.

The solution empowered patients with tools for managing their health while improving care coordination and treatment outcomes.

Approach

Results

The app has been downloaded by more than 1,000 patients. It is accessible in English and Spanish to patients and caregivers in the USA, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. It offers team:

  • Connectivity, keeping care providers constantly updated
  • Records infusions by selecting date, time, treatment infusion site and doses
  • Tracks factor supply, and sends alerts when reorder is necessary
  • Generates reports that can be shared with the treatment team via email in PDF and spreadsheet
  • Offers the ability to set reminders; and
  • Helps the patient locate a nearby Hemophilia Treatment Center

App allows physicians to make better, more informed decisions that fit the individual patient needs. Now patients can track their exact factor level hourly, allowing healthcare providers (HCP) prevent bleeds, resulting in painful complications that can disrupt a patient’s quality of life.
