What Every Pharma Leader Needs to Know About AI in Life Sciences and Following the Rules

- Keep up good documentation practices (GDP)
- There must be a clear difference between decisions made with AI and those made by people.

3. AI Validation: It’s not about being perfect; it’s about setting limits.
Regulatory validation doesn’t mean proving your model is perfect; it means making sure:
- The system works within acceptable limits that have been set.
- There are clear records of inputs, outputs, and risk thresholds.

4. You Have to Keep an Eye on Model Drift Now

- 21 CFR Part 11: Deals with electronic signatures and records
- Don’t ever put Personally Identifiable Information (PII) into open models unless you are in a secure, approved environment.
7. There is no way to avoid human oversight
There shouldn’t be any AI systems in life sciences that run themselves. Make sure:
- Review by a person in the loop (HITL) at important decision points
- Set up override workflows for important tasks
- SOPs that make it clear who is responsible for decisions made by AI
- Teach users how to check AI outputs, point out mistakes, and step in when necessary.
8. Internal audits are how you stay compliant. Lifeline
AI should be treated the same way as any other regulated digital system.
That means:
- Regular reviews of readiness and internal audits

- Keeping records of user feedback, problems, and version changes
